With the May Labor Day upon us, in order to let the children have an in-depth understanding of the origin and meaning of Labor Day, and get to understand the meaning of being a model worker, the You Dao Center held an experience activity with the theme of “Labor Creates Goodness” on April 27th at the Activity Center of the Fifth Neighborhood Committee of Fengpu Street, Fengxian District. A total of 9 children participated in the event.
At the event, volunteers from Shanghai Normal University provided a lively and interesting explanation to the children of the origins of Labor Day, sharing the touching stories of exemplary workers, and presenting the rich and colorful celebrations held in various places in the world.
The volunteers then work with the children to create paper silhouettes of their image of hardworking laborers as a tribute to those who exemplify dedication and hardwork.
Lastly, the volunteers guided the children to engage in labor experiences by doing some cleaning ups. Everyone was into the activity, and in no time at all, they had cleaned up all the fallen leaves and weeds in the entire courtyard!
Through this activity, the children not only learned the value and significance of laboring but also understand the joy to help their parents with household chores.
